Goodreads Summary
Cloud Atlas meets Orphan Black in this epic dimension-bending trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray about a girl who must chase her father's killer through multiple dimensions.
Marguerite Caine's physicist parents are known for their groundbreaking achievements. Their most astonishing invention, called the Firebird, allows users to jump into multiple universes—and promises to revolutionize science forever. But then Marguerite's father is murdered, and the killer—her parent's handsome, enigmatic assistant Paul— escapes into another dimension before the law can touch him.
Marguerite refuses to let the man who destroyed her family go free. So she races after Paul through different universes, always leaping into another version of herself. But she also meets alternate versions of the people she knows—including Paul, whose life entangles with hers in increasingly familiar ways. Before long she begins to question Paul's guilt—as well as her own heart. And soon she discovers the truth behind her father's death is far more sinister than she expected.
A Thousand Pieces of You explores an amazingly intricate multi-universe where fate is unavoidable, the truth elusive, and love the greatest mystery of all.

Tell me that is not the most beautiful cover you've ever seen! I just love the contrast between the grey and blue city - like our modern world today, and the bright, more exotic city of the parallel universes. It captures the theme of the book: different universes but similar situations.
Marguerite is our main protagonist. She's from our universe. Her parents are renowned scientists who have just invented this Firebird, allowing people to jump between parallel universes. However, when her father is killed by Paul, everything goes spiralling down. Especially when he flees with the Firebird, jumping into another universe. So, Marguerite and Theo must pursue him for answers.
I love the whole idea with parallel universes. I know it isn't a new idea, but it's always interesting to read about. Each and every universe has a version of ourselves, but slightly different. Like for Marguerite, in one universe, she's a Russian princess, in another, she's just a normal girl. However, she's determined and fixated on her one goal: find Paul and kill him as revenge (although this goal changes throughout out the course of the book - more on that later). Her motivation never wavers, no matter what situation she's thrown in.
But as the truth slowly comes to light, Marguerite's views on Paul changes slowly. *Spoiler alert* Hate changes to love. Yes, you read that right! She falls in love with Paul. I began to ship them slowly. I was finally on board when Marguerite was in the Russian parallel universe. They were so cute!! *Spoiler over*
Who saw that plot twist coming? Well, it is always obvious that the big companies are the bad guys, but wow! *Spoiler alert* Triad managed to take over the alternate version of you in another universe and use you as a spy. And Theo?! This whole time, Marguerite wasn't adventuring with her Theo, but another Theo from another universe. Woah. *Spoiler over*
I really enjoyed this book and I don't really know why I put off reading it for so long. I can't wait to find the next copy and get caught up! I'd recommend it for anyone!
My Chosen Quote
“Every form of art is another way of seeing the world. Another perspective, another window. And science –that’s the most spectacular window of all. You can see the entire universe from there.”
Ahhhh, wasn't this book great? And how gorgeous is the cover? I absolutely love it! It's such a pretty book, and the story is equally as good! I actually noticed that Marguerite's world isn't the same one as ours. Everything is exactly the same except for the name of the iPhone! They call it a t-Phone, but it's the exact same. When you think about it, it only emphasizes how there are millions of worlds out there, including worlds that are exactly the same as ours but with items that have different names! It's so weird and neat to think about! I really want a Firebird, just to see who else I might be, hahaha.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed this book, and I can't wait for you to read the next one!
Yes this book was the best! I'd love a Firebird too, especially to visit different worlds and see how they differ and are the same. How cool would it be?
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed this one so much, Cloe! :D I loooove those covers, and I think the sequel's cover is even MORE BEAUTIFUL?!!? If that's possible. XD I love them, heheh. I wasn't such a huge fan of the story, but I did like the Russian section. *flails* RUSSIA. <3
ReplyDeleteYep! The Russia part was really fun to read! Especially how different it is to our universe today (it seems to be a couple of decades behind) :)
