Goodreads Summary
Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.

The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.

Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.

But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.

Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?

I finally got my hands on this book! It was an amazing read - all throughout the book, my heart was thumping with anticipation. There was no disappointment at all.

Kneel or bleed? The revolution is underway. King Maven more determined than ever to kill all the newbloods and rule his land alongside his mother. Red vs. Silver. Mare vs. Maven. This is basically the plot of Glass Sword; all conflicting themes which bring excitement and heart-pounding exhilaration as the plot develops.

Mare is definitely not the same person she started as back in Red Queen. Now, she's a cold-hearted girl who knows what sacrifices to make. She's built a wall around her heart. Although she does talk about being guilty for all the deaths she's caused, we don't really see how much it actually affects her and her future actions. *spoiler alert* When Shade died, Mare avoided seeing her family for days on end, scared of what they would say to her. For me, it seems like Mare is running from what happened.  Why doesn't she cry for her brother? I think that she's so done with pain and heartbreak that she doesn't even know how to react anymore. *spoiler over*

What did you all think about the ending? It was phenomenal! What is going to happen next?! Poor Mare! Evil Maven! I want more of Cal (even though he was highly active in this book). I still ship Cal and Mare, even though I doubt this ship will ever set sail ;(

The Scarlet Guard is more sophisticated and well organised than I first thought. There are so many levels of commands, and well, Mare is well on the bottom. And Farley! Who would've thought of her relation with the Colonel? I felt so bad more Farley when *spoiler* she found out that Shade was dead. *spoiler over* And I wonder what her question was. The answer is yes, and that's all we know. What if she's pregnant?! OOH and what if the baby is a newblood? :D

I can't wait for the next book! I desperately hope for Mare's wellbeing. Cal and Kilorn better come, since I doubt Mare will be able to do anything, especially with that sounder on.

My Chosen Quote
“No one is born evil, just like no one is born alone. They become that way, through choice and circumstance.”

  1. Nice to know that you enjoyed this. I've been seeing disappointed thoughts about this. I just bought my copy a week ago and hoping to read it soon. I avoided all spoilers, I'd love to see if I can guess perfectly all twists again..

  2. I'm so excited to start Glass Sword already! Omg! Glad you love it!!! That brought a smile to my face when you mentioned how the The Scarlet Guard has progressed in this second book. But, I'm sad to hear about the Cal + Mare ship. Oh noooooo!!! Please don't let it be. :-(

Anyway, I like your review, Cloe! Good job! :D

  3. You're the first person who has told me there's a devastating ending! I'm both scared and excited to read it now... I'm not sure how much my heart can take. I mean, the plot twist in the last book was devastating, so if the ending to this is equally as devastating...*shudders*

    1. Both plot twists are equally painful and I guess everyone just wants to avoid talking about it... :(
