Goodreads Summary
In this dark, action-packed third book in the New York Times bestselling Dorothy Must Die series, Amy Gumm—the new girl from Kansas—must do everything in her power to save Kansas, kill Dorothy, and make Oz a free land once more.

Amy Gumm’s mission to take down Dorothy Gale is not going according to plan. Dorothy has found a way to bridge the worlds of Oz and Kansas, and if the power-hungry dictator of Oz has her way, Kansas will be destroyed forever. Now, Amy has to team up with the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked to save her home, restore the balance between the magic and nonmagic worlds, maybe get the guy—and kill that not-so-sweet Kansas farm girl once and for all.

In the third installment of the New York Times bestselling Dorothy Must Die series, Danielle Paige’s twisted versions of beloved Oz characters are back, including the biggest, baddest, most famous of all: the Wicked Witch of the West.

Welcome to the other side of the rainbow. Here there’s danger around every corner, and magic shoes won’t be able to save you.

Is it just me, or are the books getting shorter? To be exact, Dorothy Must Die was about 450 pages! Okay, no matter. Quality, not quantity. And I must say, this book was really good! Filled with action and suspense, Amy's mission finally comes to its peak.

Mild spoiler: Amy's taken three books to complete her mission.  I admire her perseverance. She hasn't let anything come between her target, not anyone. Of course, she has had a few moments where she was tempted to leave everything behind, but she's determined to finish things.

With Amy and the Quadrant back in Kansas, it was pretty amusing to see how Amy would fit back into her old life for the time being. Being missing for several months doesn't really make it any easier. Things are completely different from book one: her mother has turned over a new leaf, Madison is no longer a spiteful bully, and oher minor details. Amy had trouble fitting back in, especially with her mind preoccupied with more important things (i.e. the shoes and Nox!)

Speaking of Nox, I'm still not quite so sure what his relationship is with Amy. There was quite a lot of bonding in The Wicked Will Rise, but not so much in this book. It seems as if they are interested in each other, but only mildly. Sure, they kissed, but what does that mean? The chemistry that once was there has now dissipated.

After what we thought was a nice resolution, there comes a new foe. Well, we knew of the new foe a couple pages into the book. I was kind of worried when I was nearing the end of the book and there was no reference to this guy and how they were planning to defeat him. That's when I realised that there would 100% be another book. What?! I thought it was a trilogy. Not that I'm complaining, of course. :)

All in all, I thought this was quite an exciting read that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I'm eagerly waiting for the next book!

My Chosen Quote
“The world I grew up in is gone, too. But that doesn't mean I'm going to give up on it. Because if you give up—then what is there left to live for?”

  1. A new foe? I thought this was the last book! Strange. It's too bad to hear about the dissipated chemistry between Amy and Nox...I was looking forward to it!
Great review as always, Cloe :)

  2. Wait wait wait...THERE IS GOING TO BE ANOTHER BOOK?!?!? Duuude, how did I think this was going to be a trilogy. *facepalm* I'm embarrassed now. hhah. Ahem. Anyway, this actually changes my mind as to whether I should read this now or not. 0_0 I feel like I need to re-read the first two books, so I MIGHT wait until the final book is out and just binge read them all then. *nods* I'm still glad this was an excellent read! I ADORED the first two. :D

    1. I totally thought this was a trilogy as well! It wasn't until I reached the last page when I knew that nothing was really resolved, so there had to be another one. I know, it's such a good series! Can't wait to read the next one :)

  3. This series is really intriguing! How come I never bothered to start reading book 1?! I should get my hands on this soon to see what the hype is all about. :D

Great to see that you enjoyed this third installment! On a quick side note: honestly it's quite a shocker that there will be another book to come out. I thought this will be the final one. Oh well, clearly there's a hype I'm missing! :P

    1. I hope you do read it soon! I honestly thought it was a trilogy, but NO! There is no way this is the last book, especially with everything that goes down. I'm sure you'll enjoy it! :)
